I need to pick up some rum. Strictly for mixed drinks. Is Sam’s club rum any good? 1.75 for $15 seems like a good price if the product is remotely palatable.

How much does actual rum cost? Drinking shouldn’t feel like a punishment, it should be enjoyable.

I know the Costco Kirkland brand rum is pretty terrible.

That fact probably doesn’t help much...

Is it in a glass or plastic bottle? Never buy alcohol in plastic bottles.

How much do you like the people that will be drinking it? Spend accordingly. You can get a name brand in a glass bottle (Captain, Bacardi, etc) for not much more $$$.

Mt. Gay, hands down the most drinkable rum there is. Good with coke, tonic, soda, dark ‘n stormys, you name it.

My worry would be that the spicing would be “off” - that it would be too strong in some respect or just not taste right and overpower the other elements. But for that matter, I don’t consider Morgan to be all that great for mixing and need to find a substitute.

Regardless, whatever you do, don’t drink well over half mixed about 50/50 with Coke all on your own in a sitting. That ends badly.

Can’t speak to this one personally, but if it’s anything like Costco’s Kirkland-brand spiced rum, you should be just fine. The Kirkland stuff genuinely surprised me. It wasn’t incredible, but totally and easily drinkable if you’re using it for mixed drinks. Hell, I could picture myself drinking it straight over some better known brands (better than Captain Morgan, not as good as Kraken, but cheaper than both).
